SYRIA, Seleucis and Pieria. Emesa. Macrinus, 217-218. Tetradrachm (Billon, 24 mm, 11.94 g, 12 h). [AYT K M OΠ C]Є MAKPINOC CЄB Laureate head of Macrinus to right. Rev. ΔΗΜΑΡX ЄΞ ΥΠ[ΑΤΟC Π Π] Eagle with spread wings standing facing, head to left and holding wreath in beak; below head, O; between the eagle's legs, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Shamash to left. Cf. Prieur 1004-1005 (end of reverse legend off flan, so unable to distinguish precise variety). Lightly toned and with a particularly impressive Emesan portrait. Struck slightly off center, otherwise, good very fine.
